Mt. Rainier needs to have its name officially changed. We must change it’s name. And why not allow for more than one name? Instead of an enemy military commander who never set foot in the Pacific Northwest, why not name it after what the First Peoples used to call it? Tacoma? Tahoma? Takoma? Tacobeh? Or what the Tribal Alliance to Restore Native Names suggest, Ti’Swaq’? Pronounced as “Tee Swauk,” this reflects the gigantic volcano’s capacity to wipe the heavens clean as, The Sky Wiper.
