A Lamentation for my Country

Grief and fear, apathy and outrage, cynicism and hope, resignation and bewilderment all boil together in an iron cauldron hanging by weak chains above a nation on fire. No sharp, clean Sword of Damocles either. Just a rusty cauldron full of boiling toxic slop. Metaphors of lamentation, these terrible words.

Nearly half of my fellow citizens who voted in the November 2024 Presidential Elections voted for MAGA cult leaders Donald Trump and J.D. Vance and their acolytes. The Far, Far Right thus completed its hijacking of the Republican GOP. This odd MAGA movement, a decentralized yet loyal movement that’s an odd mix of mafia familial mindsets, fascism, libertarianism, and Christian nationalism, has kicked out the “regular” Republicans of Lincoln and Reagan. MAGA gave the dirty boot to both he TradCons and the NeoCons. They forced out common sense, pro-business, low tax, pro-strong defense (but not necessarily pro-war) blocs. They antagonized Evangelical and Mormon Christian blocs. All the anti-Trumper GOP factions ridiculed and dismissed the old school Republicans as RINOs, Republicans In Name Only. Those RINOS were so dismayed and felt so abused by the Trump cult many of them held their noses and voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as well as for other Democrats in the 2024 Elections. Many choose not to vote at all, at least not for president.

Evidence has emerged one of the primary reasons Trump legally won election this time is the Republican push to disenfranchise nearly 4 million Americans of their voting rights in the so-called Battleground States. Most of this disenfranchisement was allegedly over “stupid stuff’’ such as misspelled names and addresses, sloppy writing with illegible signatures, people moving without timely notification of address changes, fear for their safety, and confusion with various misunderstandings among those for whom English wasn’t yet their primary language. This strategic push targeted poorer people, often of color, with less education. Migrants were also among those targeted, even legal immigrants. This push is nothing more than ugly voter suppression. First they came for “those people” over there; then those nearer to “you” here; next they’ll grab you

Crazy times where it feels violent goons in suits have taken over our government. Feels we’re living in a slow-burning nightmare from a mad mix of Kafkaesque terror and Catch-22s. A few have pointed out even back in Trump’s first term the manner in which he pursues his perceived enemies with childish vengeance. This pursuit is similar to the grim persecution and rounding up of different categories of people by Nazis, Fascists, Communists, and religious fanatics. The drumbeats warning us to pull our heads up and wake up grow louder and more persistent as any ideas of playing the drums deteriorate into banging and beating such musical instruments in a cacophony of horrible noise.

Donald Trump’s American fascists have gone after and are going after a still-expanding list of fellow human beings. Remember first the MAGA Cultists went after Muslims from the Middle East and Black people from so-called “shithole countries?” Continue reading →

Trump must be impeached and removed

Tearing up the roads to dictatorship 

Yes, the Orange Man in the White House must be impeached, removed, and jailed. He must be put on trial for treason and for his litany of high crimes, misdemeanors, and blatant corruption. Ditto for JD Vance, the man currently abusing the office of the Vice-Presidency. Those Trump placed in positions of authority from the Cabinet down must also be impeached and removed from office. Elon Musk must be arrested and put on trial for the damage he has done to so many individuals and to our institutions. It will take time to repair the destruction these people have inflicted upon our nation.

Those in the courts and in Congress who aided and abetted this damage must be raked over the coals in every legal way possible for their horrid incompetence, cowardice, stupidity, and abuse of their office. Many in Congress have forfeited their authority by their flagrant and imbecilic cowardice and abuse of power and do-nothing-but-lick-Trump’s-nasty-boots behavior. Those in the MAGA Cult and its allies such as QAnon, the Christian Nationalists and Dominionists, the White Supremacists, the Project 2025 group, and other groups of sleepy haters must be expunged from government top to bottom in the same manner Germany bans Nazis from holding political office ever again.  Continue reading →

Putin is Stupid and Dangerous

The former President of the USA, wannabe autocrat and racist protofascist Donald Trump was, thank God, profoundly incompetent and too slimy to do anything correctly. The dictator of the Russian Federation, however, and his cowardly, quivering, greedy followers are a fucking, stupid mafia of corrupt, incompetent despots. Fucking dumbasses, every single one of them! And as dangerous as rabid rats stuck in corners of blood, madness, and fear. Putin and his nasty siloviki, the Russian intelligence/surveillance-military/security komplex, have gutted Russia to facilitate their imperialist, fascist fantasies of Glorious Empire. 

How DARE they threaten the planet with nuclear weapons! How DARE they spout lies and distortions of Eurasian history as “historical truth!” Are they aware Muscovy was initially a backwater feudal principality that despite its grandiose title as a Grand Duchy was still a part of mighty Kievan Rus’? Do they know Muscovy was part of a loose confederation centered in what is today Ukraine? And all conquered by the Mongol Empire? With Muscovy being a vassal of the Mongols? That upon independence from the Mongols/Tartars was ruled by bloodthirsty butchers such as the deranged Ivan the Terrible? Have they considered why all empires dominated history with failure? So how dare Putin thinks he can do whatever he wants to do to build an empire before he dies in office?

Vladimir Putin the Invader has been corrupted and isolated by his quest for power and supremacy. He’s sat on the throne for too damn long and has become impatient, chaotic, confused, and frightened. Putin’s become as angry as a schoolyard bully after those he beats up sneak up behind him and quickly jerk his britches down to reveal such a little man. Not even Donolf Trumpler’s “very big, very large, and very, very, very powerful” hands could come to the rescue.
