What’s the holdup? Why all the cowardice?
For what reasons are Republican politicians and their media cronies bending over backwards to protect ex-POTUS Donald Trump? Why do they screw up their faces and decry efforts to indict, charge, and arrest him as disgusting, disgraceful, or worse? Of course they holler “It’s political!” as a slur, especially when it suits them to say so. They thus live in a nest of their own lies and denial because, come on, they’re politicians! Everything is political! Understand everything has a political aspect. There isn’t anything inherently right or wrong in recognizing the political nature of human relationship dynamics. Trump, however, is a known manipulator of facts and thrives on distortions of truth. He and his ilk are why the public perceive politicians as, sadly, all rank and foul.
Trump should have been arrested and thrown in jail years ago. Cowardice and fear clearly paralyzed efforts to do so. Evidence demonstrates he was likely a Russian asset (an asset, not an agent), usurped the 2016 election, triggered and even encouraged racist, antisemitic, and neofascist violence, and engaged in an attempted a coup in 2021. Trump can and should be charged with several counts of treason as well as multiple counts of corruption. Period.
For what reason do Trump’s supporters among the GOP believe the former president is above the law? There isn’t any reason other than pious “outrage.” Are they afraid of being targeted next? Do they believe all presidents are above the law? Why do they want to go after Obama and Biden then? Have they forgotten the Founding Fathers and the early presidents they so exalt warned repeatedly of people who seek to behave as kings? Or even become kings? Or in today’s parlance become authoritarian, autocratic presidents-for-life as Trump so desperately wanted? As George W. Bush, despite the warnings of many on the Left and even on the Right, did not want? Did they not warn us of engaging in “factions” or political parties to the point one’s country takes a back seat to party politics? How in the world can such highly educated people be so stupid? Be so damn dumb?
The Trumplers are a travesty of democratic republican ideals. Many of the self-professed Christians among the Trumpies, going by what they themselves utter and declare, undermine the very Bible they hold Holy. Their ignorance and lack of Biblical understanding is both appalling and disturbing. Such demonstrations are an embarrassment to most Christians of all kinds everywhere and for religious people in general. As such they bring shame and ridicule, unfortunately, to real Traditional Conservatives. Indeed, Trump’s protofascist minions not only galvanized the Far Right but also galvanized the Far Left and tore the mainstream middle into purple pieces. Tendencies towards polarization and fragmentation have existed in America since our European colonial days, but Trump disrupted these tensions and allowed them to erupt into violence bordering on a degree of low-intensity civil war.
Yes, throw the man in jail. Charge Donald John Trump on multiple counts, including treason, and put him on trial in a court of law. If his anti-woke gangs keep slobbering hysterically over “the horror, the horror!” of simply indicting this usurper, well, lock them up, too, and try them for placing a crooked traitor above the law and for behaving however unwittingly for enemy assets as agents of destruction. We the people of the United States of America must not stand for this dangerous nonsense.
Thank goodness Donald Trump was incompetent and a fool. That alone saved us from real, not fake tyranny. The next wanna-be dictator who attempts to seize power will likely have learned from Trump’s numerous failures.
