The Story behind the Video and Posting it here
In the wake of the 1999 Battle of Seattle, in which I participated as a peaceful protester, I took a stand for planetary unification and worldwide democracy. Our species faced an overwhelming array of overlapping wicked global-local problems. The only way forward was to learn to work and play together to build a global democracy. We Earth Humans have the intelligence, the technology, and the skills to build out a democratic world parliament for a democratic world republic. We have all the skills except these: the capacity for peaceful resolution of conflict, the will to transcend our primal inclination to engage in battle of one kind or another, an ability to hold the long view, and the emotional intelligence to understand and desire these changes. The Pacific Northwest was a heightened swirl of numerous different groups forming connections and sharing ideas in the wake of the Battle of Seattle. The late Habib Rose the Network Weaver co-created the People Web with me and others.
My book manuscript was called, We the People of Earth © and remains a work in progress. At the time, however, I thought I was almost finished. Many things intervened. In the meantime, I began to get active in the Vote World Parliament organization based in Canada. They were active in bypassing the United Nations with a Global Referendum for a Democratic World Parliament. During the same time, I volunteered with other parents to serve in the Wisdom Council at Salmon Bay Middle School in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. There I met Jim Rough and his associate DeAnna Martin. Our work was difficult and challenging, and I connected well with Jim and DeAnna. We all grew to respect them greatly. Jim is a rare combination of visionary and man of action. one of the most grounded and anchored people I’ve ever met. DeAnna’s insights were as brilliant and pointed as laser beams, and she had the gift to weave so many disparate parts into a whole so understandable we can feel it, see it.
Eventually during the early days of the Great Recession, Jim invited me across the sea to Port Townsend to be interviewed on his TV show. I accepted, hit the road on Wednesday the 12th of March 2008, and took the ferry across the Salish over to the Olympic Peninsula. We engaged in a thought-provoking conversation about democratic world government versus global tyranny and what roles wisdom councils with dynamic facilitation may play in the process. I did seek permission to use this YouTube video on Jim Rough’s channel of our 2008 interview. I texted, emailed, and never heard back. Ironically, it was Jim who had texted me back on 15 May 2022 asking me what ever happened to writing my book. A conversation by text ensued, and then gradually petered out. Emailed an official request for permission to the Dynamic Facilitation Staff on 2 June 2024. Still haven’t received an answer. As it’s now 29 September 2024 and without hearing back, I chose to go ahead and publish this article with Jim’s YouTube video of our interview from Open Media. Today, right now, more than ever, we all must learn to cooperate together to peacefully reconcile our bloody grievances, find ways to build a united, democratic planet, and resolve our many challenges. Or else our extinction as a species grows more and more likely as omnicide looms. The choice is ours.
