Are things really “all good?”

Language is an ocean we swim in and our speech shapes our perception

Is saying, “Hey, it’s all good,” a cop out? An expression of denial? A desperate desire to smooth over problems and bring harmony to a crisis? A way to avoid having to explain something when we rather sit with the silence of self-knowing?

Usually we use “It’s all good” as a way of calming someone else who is worried about something going wrong or bad, to let them know it’s all OK, things are not as bad as they seem, things will get better. It’s similar to saying, “It’s a blessing in disguise,” or “new opportunities open in the midst of loss and hard times.” So it’s all good.

Except it is not all good in the middle of wars, massacres, rapes, beheadings, torture, and other violent crime. Or in nonviolent crimes such as extortion and corruption.

In the big scheme of things the Universe doesn’t care. Unless the Universe is somehow conscious and has some cosmic code of ethics known only to itself.

As with anything, we humans tend to overuse something good and helpful. “It’s all good” turns into “too much of a good thing.” Yes? No? Maybe so?

What do you think and feel when you’re struggling and suffering and someone goes, “No worries. It’s all good.” Is it ignoring one’s pain, or is it an attempt to stand up and step back a bit to regain perspective?

It’s normal to feel a range of emotions. It’s healthy to learn it’s not always about us. Our planet would be a better world if we learned as individuals and as societies not to take everything personally. Imagine if we humans practice the practices of learning not to erupt into outrage and go off on a warpath of vengeance whenever our beliefs are questioned and challenged. All too often we justify our actions to excuse deeper underlying desires and drives. Because it’s all good, right? Left?

Let me know what you think and feel in the comment section below. Thank you. Because, yeah, sometimes it’s bad now. Living the lives we live gets hard sometimes. And eventually the sun shines again, the sky is blue, life finds a new way, and it’s all good again. Till the next horror. And then, aye, it’s all good yet again. Thus generations of us cycle thru history for millennia, riding the tides as the oceans ebb and flow up against continents anchored in our planet’s cracked mantel, thru the sufferings and the joys so after the tears we smile once more, a hundred thousand Earth years later, and all is good again on this planet.
